Active Camera 2004

Download

With this module you can enable additional views in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004 - A Century of Flight. Several new camera views are selectable from the FS2004 - Options menu. When activated this module replaces the original tower and virtual cockpit views of FS2004.

How To Use Active Camera – A Quick Tutorial

MOVING AROUND OUTSIDE YOUR AIRCRAFT

If you've installed Active Camera, then on your FS Menu, go to Options and look for the Active Camera submenu.

In the submenu, you should have Internal Pilot View and Enable wheel zoom in VC checkmarked.

Load up your aircraft and make sure it's on the ground. Press X on your keyboard. You should now be outside your airplane. (You will be placed to the left of it).

Press down on your scroll wheel on your mouse and keep it pressed, and move your mouse. You will notice that you are "turning your head" this way. If you move the mouse to the right and left, you'll move your head to the right or left. If you move your mouse forwards and backwards, you'll move your head up and down. (If you turn your scroll wheel, you'll zoom in and out).

The first thing you should do after pressing X is turn your head to the right because that's where your plane will be, and you'll see it.

To move around (walking), make sure the Num Lock light is on on your keyboard. If it isn't, press the Num Lock button on your keyboard to turn it on.

Now for walking around: Press the Number Pad keys for walking.
8 for moving forward. 2 for moving backwards.
4 to move left. 6 to move right.
7 to rotate left. 9 to rotate right.

To run (yes, you can even run): while pressing one of the Number pad keys, hold down the Shift key.

Press X again to end this mode and return to your airplane.

MOVING AROUND INSIDE THE COCKPIT AND CABIN

Go to Virtual Cockpit mode. You don't need to press X this time. Just use your mouse and keyboard in the same manner described above.

FLY BY VIEW

This mode works when you in are flying in the air. You can set the virtual camera to stay at a fixed external point in the air and watch your plane fly by this point. This point gets moved up every 10 seconds (you can change this time duration in "Setup" of the Active camera submenu if you want).

To activate Fly By mode, you first have to switch to Tower view. Then press Control + F5. You will see your plane barreling towards you and then pass you. The camera view point then gets updated and moved up, and you again see your plane coming towards you until it passes you again. This will keep repeating for however long you remain in Fly By view during flight.

You can cycle back to Cockpit or other views and have Fly By mode remain activated in the background.

To disengage Fly By mode, press Control + F5 again.

APPROACH VIEW

When you are about to land, you can switch to Approach view. Approach mode will behave exactly like Fly By mode when your plane is 200 ft above ground level. Once you are below 200 ft AGL, Approach mode will calculate your touch down spot according to your current glideslope and will move the camera to that point on the ground.

So basically you can watch the plane touch down at the very spot you are "standing". This is ideally, because your glideslope can shift during the landing process and therefore your touchdown spot may drift a little from where Active Camera calculated it.

To activate Approach mode, make sure you are in Tower view and then press Control + F6.

Again, as in Fly By mode, you can cycle through the other regular views such as Cockpit view if you want, and keep Approach mode running in the background.

To disengage Approach mode, press Control + F6 again.

FS2004/FSX PAA and TWA Model 307 Stratoliner

Development of the Stratoliner began as the Model 300 in 1934. It emerged as a transport version of the Model 299/B-17C bomber. The wings, engines, nacelles and original tail surfaces all came from the big bomber, but a new and enormous fuselage of circular cross-section gave the 307 a distinctive whale-like appearance. The prototype (one of 4 ordered by Pan American) made its maiden flight on December 31, 1938. Unfortunately, it later broke up pulling out of a spin with a KLM delegation on board. Boeing added a larger fin and rudder to improve directional stability (the B-17E introduced this tail to the bomber version).

Pan American's remaining 3 aircraft were delivered in 1940, named Clipper Flying Cloud, Clipper Comet, and Clipper Rainbow. These aircraft could be distinguished from other 307's by the lack of external flap hinges. All were based in Miami, serving Latin American routes. The five ordered by TWA were also delivered in 1940, but in 1942 were impressed as C-75's into the Army Air Transport Command, flown by TWA crews. These 5 were upgraded in 1944 with B-17G wings, nacelles and tail surfaces. In addition, more powerful engines were installed and the cabin pressurization system was removed. They were later sold to Aigle Azur, and worked in Indo-China; several eventually went to Aeromaritime. A single specially equipped 307 was ordered by Howard Hughes, who planned to set a new record on an around the world flight. The outbreak of WW II cancelled this plan, and Hughes converted it to a flying palace. One is currently being restored in Seattle.

FS X / FS 2004 The Boeing 247

In 1930, the travelling public was likely to take the train for long journeys. The current airliners (i.e. the Ford Tri-Motor, etc.) were uncomfortable, noisy, and not much faster than the new streamliner trains. Boeing, as part of the United Aircraft and Transport company, decided to develop a new airliner based on it's previous single-engined Monomail and retractable undercarriaged B-9 bomber. The result was the Model 247, which carried 10 passengers at 155 mph in a new level of comfort. Pratt & Whitney 550 hp Wasp engines were used (P&W was also part of the United conglomerate, as it still is today), and an order for 59 (huge at the time) was placed by the airlines of the United empire: Boeing Air Transport, Pacific Air Transport, National Air Transport, and Varney Speed Lines. The new plane went into service with Boeing Air Transport in March, 1933; in 1934 the constituent airlines were merged into United Air Lines and the new airline took over operations of all the 247's. A later development, the 247D, provided improved aerodynamics, hot and high performance, and cruising speed: 13 were built, others were apparently converted to the new standard.

It appeared that the Model 247 had a bright future in airline service, but the large order (which took up all of Boeing's manufacturing capacity) lead other airlines to search for alternatives, which sent TWA to Douglas and the DC-2. The DC-2 had a greater capacity and 40 mph higher speed, and soon most US airlines were ordering. DC-2's. United still had a fleet of 247's until 1942, when they were taken over by the military as C-73's. After the war, the glut of better planes (Douglas DC's, and Connies) took it's toll on the 247, and they soon drifted away from airline service. Only two 247's still exist, one in Seattle at the Boeing Museum.

Its wings are swept back at 35 degrees, a very sharp angle by the standards of propeller-driven aircraft. To date, it remains the only turboprop-powered strategic bomber to have entered operational service.

The package includes a highly defined visual model (without virtual cockpit), authentic sounds, realistic flight dynamics and a complex panel with Russian instruments.

FS2004 Hana Heli-Playground, Hawaii, USA

Hana Airport is a regional airport of the State of Hawaii on the east shore of the island of Maui, 3 NM northwest of the unincorporated town of Hana. The airport covers 119 acres and has one runway. It is primarily a commuter facility used by unscheduled air taxis and general aviation. This scenery is intended as a single/multiplayer helicopter obstacle course where heli pilots can meet to compete, show off, and share their helo skills. Since birdseye Timm Turner already did a neat scenery called Hana_Scenery_PHHN, we decided to convert PHHN to a full helicopter training area. Makes a great place for helo pilots to gather to practice and perfect their skills, and challenge other pilots! And keep an eye-out for that Hot Air Balloon, cruising around an altitude of 3000 feet.
