Muan Intl Airport located in Muan-gun opened in November 2007 to serve the
southwestern area of Korea. Apparently, it was built under the concept of you
build it, they will come? as the area is already served by regional airports. Much
of the infrastructure required to adequately support the airport is yet to be built,
although some is promised to be online by June 2008. Speculation has been
that when the bullet train (KBT) comes to the area, the market for domestic air
travel will be minimal although the authorities have been promoting Muan as an
international gateway.
